THE BLESSINGS OF RAMADAAN

EXCERPTS FROM A LECTURE BY SHAFEEQUL-UMMAH HAZRAT HAJEE MUHAMMAD FAROUQ SAHIB (RAHMATULLAHI ALAIH)

THE BLESSINGS OF RAMADAAN

Inherent in the fasting during Ramadaan and standing in Salaah during Ramadaan is the glad tiding of forgiveness. You are being granted the Taufeeq to perform very lofty acts of worship and you are developing within yourself the Attribute of Allah Ta’ala. Allah Ta’ala is free from the need to eat and drink as He is free from the need to procreate. By fasting one is becoming the repository of this Attribute because fasting is the term implying abstention from three acts, with the appropriate intention from Subuh Sadiq till sunset. One abstains from food and drink as well as marital relations and thereby imbues oneself with the Attribute of Allah Ta’ala as well as the characteristic of the angels who also do not eat, drink, and procreate. This is an act of such immense magnitude that it has the capacity to transform one into a Muttaqi and to secure one entry into paradise without any reckoning. My beloved brothers! By the blessings of fasting one will be granted entrance till eternity. Have you not understood the reality of this? One’s entrance into paradise will not be a temporary one but one that stretches on till eternity. By virtue of fasting one will be entered eternally into Jannah! A great boon this is!

During the day one is in actual fact fasting while at night one is partaking of food to facilitate fasting due to which one is allegorically fasting. One is drinking at night in order not to do so during the day. One indulges in marital relations, my Hazrat explained, as a Shar’ee necessity, in order not to indulge therein during the daytime.

Based on this, one will be rewarded for this eating as much as one will be for fasting; one will be rewarded as much for drinking as one will be for not drinking. It clearly appears in some Kitaabs that those males and females who fast and thereafter eat and drink during the night as well as feed and provide drink will not be questioned pertaining to such food and drink on the day of Qiyaamah. My beloveds! This act of fasting during Ramadaan is indeed a very lofty act. It is an act of worship which has splendid merit. Consider its connections! Fasting is connected to Allah Ta’ala while standing in Salaah is connected to Allah’s beloved messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Along with this consider the moderate form of solitude granted.

THE WONDERFUL STATUS OF I’TIKAAF

Fulfil one’s Itikaaf in such a Masjid wherein the five daily Salaah is offered. A Masjid in terms of the Shariah. By means of this act Allah Ta’ala has granted us solitude while in a gathering. What more can be said! Two Haj and two Umrah, by means of a single days I’tikaaf, how far is one removed from Jahannum? A distance of five hundred years. Brothers! What we all desire and need is to be distanced from Jahannum and closeness to paradise. Another amazing point is the fact that one who is waiting for Salaah is granted the rewards of being in Salaah. It is as if the person forming the intention for I’tikaaf has begun Salaah on the eve of the twentieth of Ramadaan and remains engaged in this Salaah for a full ten days and nights, till the sighting of the crescent for Eid after which he turns for Salaam and completes his Salaah. While fast asleep, he is in Salaah! While wide a wake, he is in Salaah! While eating, he is in Salaah! While drinking, he is in Salaah! At every instant during his stay in the Masjid he is in Salaah. At times this is actually so while at other times he is allegorically so. We beseech Allah Ta’ala to grant us the abundant Taufeeq for these actions to be performed during Ramadaan and that He make them easy for us and assist us therein. O Allah! We are weak and helpless. We are assailed by different forms of illnesses. O Allah! Provide us with Your assistance from the unseen whereby we can imbibe all these aspects within us. Let us engage in the abundant recitation of the Quraan as in the case of Hazrat Raipuri who gave up all his correspondence as well as meeting people and was either occupied in fasting or recitation of the Quraan. This cycle continued over and over every day of the entire month. We beseech Allah Ta’ala to grant such devotion to us as well, along with I’tikaaf during the last ten days. O Allah! Grant abundant Taufeeq to us as well as to our children and the other members of our household. O Allah! Grant us the Taufeeq to spend Ramadaan in keeping with the Sunnah as discussed. Grant us the Taufeeq to spend Ramadaan in the shadows of Your accepted servants, O Allah! These are a few points of advice I have furnished, by virtue of your bounties and love, which Allah has placed in my heart right now.

BY VIRTUE OF FASTING ONE IS GRANTED GOOD HEALTH

It appears in the Hadeeth Shareef:

“Fast and you will be granted good health.”

We generally tend to make an issue of being healthy. The question of good health has been answered by virtue of this advice to keep fast. Our faith and conviction lies in the advice:

“Fast and you will be granted good health.”

Physical ailments are generally the result of excessive eating and drinking which Allah Ta’ala decreases by virtue of fasting. In fact, He grants Cures due to its blessings. Very many problems and difficulties are alleviated due to fasting. One becomes a Mustajaab ud Da’waat, a Wali and a Muttaqi.
