THE SIGNS OF QIYAAMAT

INTRODUCTION

Belief in Qiyamat is one of the three basic principles of Ieman, the other two being Tauheed (Oneness of Allah) and Risalat (Prophethood of Nabi Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam), without which the Ieman of a Mumin is incomplete. Denying or refuting any one of these rudimentary beliefs expels one from the fold of Islam. Just as it is a requisite of Ieman to believe in one Allah and in the Prophethood of Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, it is also necessary to believe in the Resurrection after death.

The Signs of Qiyamat is a subject the signifcance of which Muslims in spite of the smattering knowledge thereof, have sadly failed to grasp and comprehend. Perhaps this failure is in fact a result of their lack of knowledge on this issue, for the more knowledge of a subject one possesses, the greater depth there is in its comprehension. Be that as it may, belief in Qiyaamat is fundamental to the Iemaan of every Muslim. The fact that one day we all will be Resurrected and brought before Allah to answer and give account for our doings in this world is foremost in the heart and faith of every Believer. Without this no Muslim’s Iemaan is complete, for to reject the belief in Qiyaamat is kufr and expels one from the fold of Islam. However, in spite of the belief in Qiyaamat maintained by every Mu’min, the lack of preparation for this great Day is indicative of the weakness of our aqeedah. We have no conviction in our own belief. At this stage the event of Qiyaamat to us seems something abstract, or at the very least, a happening that will still take many, many more light years before it comes to pass.
